Kuwait : Prime necessity of maintaining national unity and renouncing discords among the natives were prime themes of an electoral campaign rally held by two parliamentary candidates running in the third constituency.
Abdullah Shamsah, addressing his campaign headquarters, along with his ally and fellow nominee, Abbas Al-Khedhari, late on Wednesday, affirmed serious responsibility of the voters in choosing the qualified figures to serve in the legislative authority.
Speaking at length about education, Al-Khedhari said only qualified teachers should be employed. He also called for establishment of top-level universities and mapping out strategies for coping with rapid technological progress. “Why we still use the chalk and board in classes while other nations use computers?” he asked.
The nominee, who had served as a doctor at public hospitals, said he sensed during his service that many citizens did not have confidence in the government hospitals, and favored the private ones. He said the medical staff, namely the doctors, should be given sufficient incentives so they could perform their duties properly.
On housing, Al-Khedhari called for increasing the housing loans to cope with the soaring prices of construction materials and securing housing to Kuwaiti women whose husbands died. He urged for granting the citizenship to children of widows and divocrees who were married to non-Kuwaitis.
He also called for granting the nationality to the illegal residents, whose names were included in the 1965 census, lowering the electoral age to 18 and allowing military and police personnel to vote.
