वाराणसी: इस शहर के प्रचलित होने के अपने ही निराले कारण हैं. पिछले साल देखते-देखते यह शहर लोकसभा चुनाव की सबसे हाई-प्रोफाइल सीट में तब्दील हो गया. मोदी और केजरीवाल में टक्कर हुई. उसके पहले कई सारे आयोजन और कई सारे फसानों ने शहर को चर्चा के केंद्र में रखा ही है. शहर के बीचोबीच मुस्लिम बहुल इलाके में मौजूद मोहल्ले बेनियाबाग में एक शख़्स से मिलने का वक़्त रात को साढ़े ग्यारह के बाद का है. जब शहर सो जाता है तो यह शख़्स न्यौता देता है कि आइये, यहीं चाय पिएंगे और बात भी करेंगे. शख़्स का नाम है ‘अशफाक़ मेमन’. चौराहे पर एक एक छोटा-सा मंदिर है, उसके चबूतरे पर चाय की दूकान लगती है और मंदिर की दीवार से पीठ टिकाकर अशफाक़ मेमन आपसे रातभर बात कर सकते हैं. पुलिसवाले उन्हें ‘नेताजी सलाम’ कहकर संबोधित करते हैं तो अशफाक़ मेमन कहते हैं कि नेताजी मत कहा करो यार.
