Chennai : Muthulakshmi, wife of the dreaded bandit Veerappan Tuesday sought a ban on a television serial based on the life of her late husband scheduled to be aired on television from Oct 15.
She told the media here that the future of her two daughters would be affected by the telecast of the serial. Muthulakshmi said she would approach the Madras High Court.
She said until her name was cleared in all the cases related to her late husband Veerappan, the serial should not be aired.
Koose Munisamy Veerappan who was also a Vanniyar leader (A caste leader), is even today respected by people in many villages in western Tamil Nadu.
The bandit had roamed the forests of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka for 20 years before being gunned down on Oct 18, 2004 by a special police team.
Muthulakshmi had earlier approached a city session court to stop the telecast of the serial, pleading that it would “traumatise” her teenaged daughters.
The court had allowed the telecast, but asked the channel to ensure that the portrayal of the bandit’s life should not hurt the sentiments of the family.
She said the two directors of the serial, V. Gauthaman and Tamilkumaran, son of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader, G.K. Mani, met her five months ago to discuss about the serial and secretly recorded her conversation to include it in the programme.
The 125-episode television serial, with 1,000 characters taking part, is named ‘Sandhana Kaadu’ (Sandalwood Forest). Veerappan is played by Karate Raja and Muthulakshmi by debutante Deepika.
The programme will broadcast by Makkal TV, a Tamil channel, backed Mani.
Director, V. Gauthaman said he had researched on the project for three years.
