Patna: The former Speaker of Bihar Assembly and senior leader of Congress party, Mr. Hidayatullah Khan passed away in Patna yesterday. Khan, 82, had been ill for last few years. He took his last breath in Hai Hospital in the state capital.
Mr. Hidayatullah Khan, who has been an active prominent personality in Bihar politics, belonged to East Champaran district of Bihar. He was elected for Harsiddhi assembly seat in the district in 1972, 1980 and 1990 on Congress ticket.
He had been the president of Bihar Congress for a long period. He had also been Speaker of Bihar Assembly from 1989 to 1990.
Bihar Chief Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar expressed his grief on his death and announced state honor to Khan’s last procession.
Mr. Hidayatulaah Khan’s body was brought to Sadaqat Ashram, Bihar Congress party headquarters in Patna, in the morning where many Congress leaders offered floral tributes to Khan. On behalf of Congress party Mr. Sumeer kumar Singh did it.
Anil Sharma, the president of Bihar Congress party, also expressed his deep concern on the demise of the Congress leader Khan and said that Mr. Hidayatullah Khan was a sincere and honest leader and as a president he strengthened Congress party while as an MLA and minister he did great service to Bihar.
Former Chief Minister of Bihar, Mr. Jagannath Mishra who had worked with Mr. Khan, said that his death is not only the loss of Bihar but also the loss of whole country. He said that Mr. Khan was recognized as a social activist and honest leader. Mr. Mishra also termed Khan’s death his personal loss because Khan was his close friend.
