Meaningful dialogue will resolve Kashmir issue: Gilani

By IANS,

Islamabad : Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani Friday reiterated that the country will continue supporting Kashmiris “brothers” and stressed that meaningful dialogue with India was a “necessity” to resolve the dispute.

Gilani was speaking at a meeting held here in connection with the Kashmir Solidary Day at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts.

“Pakistan has always emphasized the necessity of a meaningful dialogue to resolve the Kashmir dispute,” he said.

He expressed the government’s resolve to continue extending moral and political support to the people of Kashmir, official APP news agency reported.

He said “the Kashmir dispute is the root cause of tension in South Asia”.

“We shall always stand with our Kashmiri brothers and sisters for the realization of their fundamental and inalienable rights. Together we shall succeed.”

The reiteration came as India and Pakistan Friday discussed the dates for talks between their foreign secretaries and the scope of their dialogue that could include other issues besides terrorism.

India’s offer of foreign secretary-level talks Thursday has predictably raised hopes in Islamabad about a revival of the composite dialogue, with its top leadership discussing the Indian proposal.
