Berlin : German support for the war in Afghanistan has reached a record low as only 26 percent of Germans say their troops should remain in the war-stricken country, according to an opinion poll released Thursday by the public television network ARD.

Some 71 percent of those questioned said German soldiers should be pulled out of Afghanistan as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, 82 percent of Germans oppose sending more troops to Afghanistan.

Only 15 percent back the additional deployment of German forces in that country .

Germany has hinted at its readiness to dispatch more soldiers to Afghanistan ahead of the international Afghan conference in London on January 28.
