Pre-matric Scholarship: Bihar Govt. invites applications for 2010-11

Patna: The Minority Welfare Department of Bihar government has invited applications from minority students for pre-matric scholarships for the year 2010-11. The last date for submission of application forms is 31st July 2010. There are 1,44,800 scholarships for Muslims this year.

The minority students of Class I to Class X who are studying in government or private schools can apply to get benefits from the scheme. They are directed to submit their application forms to the office of Bihar State Shia Wakf Board at Hajj House building in Patna by 31st July 2010. The application forms can be obtained from the office of concerned District Magistrate, Minority Cell and also can be downloaded from the official website of Bihar Shia Wakf Board http://www.biharshiawakfboard.com/.

The fifty percent marks in the previous exam are necessary to be eligible for the scheme except for the students of Class I for whom there is no such condition. Besides, annual income of the parents must be bellow Rs one lakh. The selection will be made on the basis of merit and income. Economically weaker students will be preferred. The 30% scholarship is reserved for the girl students.

The selected students of Class I to V will be given yearly Rs. 1000/ while students of Class VI to X will get Rs.6000/. This selection will be valid for one year and next year they will have to get it renewed.

The state government has published one-page ad/notice in Urdu dailies here today, seven days before the deadline.

The scholarship scheme is part of Central Government’s three mega scholarship schemes namely pre-matric, post-matric and merit-cum-means scholarships. The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, which is running the scheme, has given Bihar government a target of 1,45,809 units of Pre-matric scholarship for minority students for the academic year of 2010-2011. Of them, 1,44,800 scholarships will be for Muslims. The central government has already sanctioned Rs.6.11 crore for the purpose.
