TN MLA Kandasami bats for release of Muslim terror under-trials

Coimbatore: M N Kandasami, MLA from Thondamuthu constituency in Tamil Nadu, has demanded that innocent Muslim under-trials languishing in jail in 1998 Coimbatore bomb blast must be released. The Congress MLA demanded the state DMK government of M Karunanidhi to release the innocents from jail.

Addressing a function organized by Tamil Nadu Journalists’ Union, Coimbatore District, on June 13, Kandasami recalled the horror of February 14, 1998 and the subsequent arrest of Muslims in the bomb blast case.




These men from Tamil Nadu who spent several years in jail accused of being involved in the Coimbatore bomb blasts.

“Many Muslim innocents had been arrested. They are languishing in the prison uncared and unheard. Their legal battle is unending,” said Kandasami. He announced that he would place a petition before the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu praying him that at least 10 Muslim under-trial prisoners may be released after assessing their conduct and morality. He said the CM could do this during the World Tamil Classical Meet that state government is organizing from June 23 to 27 which would according to government estimation will cover an expenditure of Rs 300 crore.

Recalling his early days, the legislator said: “I have been associating with this minority Muslim community right from school and college and they are known for piety and modesty.”
