‘Mainstream’ Media, They did it once again

New Delhi: On 7 March 2007, when more than 5000 activists of Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazagham (TMMK) marched to Parliament from various parts of the state to demand reservation for Muslims in government services and educational institutions, they could not make news for mainstream media at all as the march was completely blacked out. Three years down the line situation seems not to have changed. Yesterday, there were several rallies on Muslim issues here but ‘mainstream’ newspapers have just buried the news.
Jantar Mantar of Delhi, considered to be the barometer of Indian Democracy and the only authorized space in the national capital to put forward people’s demand on various issues, witnessed a historic scene yesterday. Thousands of people and dozens of organization, coming from different parts of the country rallied for reservation for Muslims and implementation of recommendations of both Sachar Committee and Ranganath Mishra Commission. But for mainstream media it was not the ‘news’ hence you will either find complete blackout or marginal reporting with misleading touch in today’s papers.
The Times of India in its 36-page issue could not spare even a single column to cover any of rallies, dharna and protests organized to demand Muslim reservation. While counterpart Hindustan Times, in its 38-page edition could only make it on page 16 with heading “Post-women’s bill: Huge Muslim rally for quota”. However, it writes in a confusing way: “Backed by prominent MPs opposed to women reservation bill, hundreds of backward Muslims and Christians on Tuesday demanded quota in jobs and education”.
Joining Times of India, both The Pioneer and The Asian Age spread over 16 and 36 pages respectively could not spare even a tiny space to inform their readers about demands of Muslims. The Statesman in 20-page edition only bothered to publish a small picture of protest demanding Minority Character of Jamia Millia Islamia. The Indian Express did the same, and that too on its page number 23 of 26-page newspaper.
Among the lesser read, both The Hindu and tabloid Mail Today comparatively gave more space. But The Hindu covered only Dharna for Minority Character of Jamia Millia Islamia and Mail Today felt happy covering only Popular Front of India’s march to Parliament.
Hindi newspapers, not lagging behind their English counterparts reported the events with same ‘zeal’. In fact, Hindi papers took lead in not covering. Dainik Jagaran and Amar Ujala, most read papers of Hindi did not cover the events. Like Times of India, the same group’s paper Nav Bharat Times blacked out the news. Dainik Hindustan, following the pattern of group’s English paper Hidustan Times gave a marginal coverage. While Jansatta, one of the progressive but less read Hindi daily covered the events comparatively better, Hindi daily Nai Duniya only worried to publish small news demanding minority character of Jamia. However, Rashrtriya Sahara Hindi daily did it well.
What is most startling, even Urdu dailies did not cover the events prominently. Rashtriya Sahara, largest selling Urdu daily did not mind it publishing on front pages. The events could only find space on page number 8 and 9. Lesser known and read Sahafat and Hamara Samaj Daily made it on front pages. However, on the whole even in Urdu dailies the events got lesser attention, of course not up to their importance.
Interestingly, in almost every daily petty incident of clash in Jamia Nagar between Asif Mohd Khan, local MLA and Parwez Hashsmi, former MLA and Rajya Sabha MP has been over reported. In fact, some of the newspapers blew it out of proportion. Times of India reported curfew like situation giving heading – Jamia Nagar tense after MP, MLA groups clash and Dainik Jagaran reported, Clash between MP and MLA in Jamia Nagar, disturbances at Police Station. Urdu dallies also followed the line. What is more interesting, the people of Jamia Nagar heard about the ‘rioting and tension’ through the newspapers only. Even this writer, who lives not more than 500 hundred meters from MP’s residence and crosses both his residence and Police station at least twice in a day is ‘informed’ by newspapers only!

For the purpose, learn to operate law and be tactful
and must have a source to communicate widely
your thought and views at a time daringly and openly
Then, there can be an iota of freedom of expression
You may be safe after spade a spade call
And set aside the libelous remarks:

However your ACCUSATION(s) about funding from Muslim countries is, simply questionable !!! Do you know how much will be Indian Rupee equivalent to Five Million Dollars - and where can Rajdeep Sardesai hide such an amount??? It's just laughable !!!
Whenever I raise doubts about Mumbai 26/11 attacker's identities - Indians "jump-up" supporting Indian media version - saying attackers are LeT etc. etc. etc.
*This is especially suspicious, as ATS Chief Hemant Karkare was killed, which obviously benefited Hindutva - who took no time to replace Karkare with Raghuvanshi.
*Months of advance warning by intelligence warnings was ignored by Indian authorities.
*Ten terrorists of foreign origin, holding Mumbai and India at ransom for three days, is simply unbeleivable.
*A dinghy boat cannot carry ten terrorists with ammunition and logistics to last for three days.
On the contrary, it has been proved time and again about Hindutva involvement in scores of attacks inside India, including Malegaon, Goa, Pune - there is no progress in investigations NOR arrests.

Let me tell you first that i didn't write this up, or made this up. I just forwarded what i had. You can always show if the ownership of media is wrong and i gladly accept it. I don't see any reason to not to believe, except possibly the Arabs giving money, which are always questionable. I am only interested in the media ownership and if you have any other info, prove that it is wrong.
As far as your stupid rants about ATS chief killing, Hindutva people involved in 26/11, I am not surprised it is coming from a brainwashed muslim zealot. The guilt consciouness of muslim zealots is so immense (how can they ever think a muslim, followig peaceful islam can ever do such acts???) that they tend to blame the one which helps in covering up their guilt and which is hindutva.

Thank you "Anonymous" for bringing to light about funding by RSS office-bearers based in M.E., fund-collections, and remittances from Arab countries. I am aware of that, and I even know their mode-of-operation, etc. and respective governments in those countries, are keeping a close watch on their activities. The day they are caught, they know their fate, the law and punishment of those countries.

Instead let us fix a date and time and let all muslim men women and children of India come out from houses and sit on the road for 30 minutes insisting our demands and disperse.This,no mainstream media can neglect.

Yes, ofcourse Mahtab Bhai, this news was completely blacked out by mainstream media. But, why we blame only main stream media, our Urdu dailies also did the same. If the Urdu media, which is considered to be to remain at the fore front for Muslim causes, did not give any space in its publication, why we expect much from news papers like TOI, HT, and IE.
As you talked about the event that occurred in Jamia Nagar locality, I too came to know about that incident a day after the incident took place. When I was passing the police station, I saw a huge deployment of the Rapid Action Foce there.
I remember a similar protest organized by Jamia Teachers Solidarity Group in front of the Delhi Police Headquarter. I was also covering the protest for The Milli Gazette, an English fortnightly, and I witnessed no wide coverage of the protest in any main stream newspapers despite being present a huge army of representative of almost all electronic and print media.
So, there is nothing new in this. When the community itself is not aware of its problems, why we blame others.

The BIAS you report in this article is nothing new. Mainstream TV media recently telecast an advertisement reporting about "A BOY STUCK IN DRAINAGE MANHOLE" as "BREAKING NEWS" with TV-Station director SHOUTING AT TOP OF HIS VOICE - I will continue this item as "Breaking News" until I receive "ex no. of phone calls", completely SIDELINING MAIN NEWS - WHICH AFFECT PUBLIC / POLITICIANS.
What I'm trying to say is MAINSTREAM MEDIA is SITTING in LAP of POLITICIANS and BUSINESSMEN, enjoying a "soothing" tickle, and who feed them through ADVERTISEMENTS or BRIBES, for selective reporting - bowing to POLITICIAN(S) / BUSINESS-HOUSE dictates.

I can put on record, mainstream media has capability to either MAKE or BREAK, by reporting in a BIASED or UNBIASED manner. However, there is no means, by which citizens / readers can GRADE "mainstream media" reports, except by limiting readership.
