Kannur: The popular base of the Social Democratic Party of India will get stronger by the local body elections in Kerala, said SDPI general secretary P Abdul Majeed Faisy. The party is contesting alone in around 2500 wards all over the state. He was speaking at a press conference in Kannur.
He said that both fronts were trying to divert the attention of people by creating controversies like the lottery. The common people are suffering in all this. No party is trying to understand their problems. Both fronts follow an anti-people policy. When asked if the party was working for minorities, he replied that the SDPI was working for the majority. Dalits are majority in India. The ruling class receives money from private monopolies and work for them. The SDPI is duty-bound to respond against this. The SPDI is concentrating more on villages than the cities. It would become the party gathering most number of votes by facing the elections alone.
Mr Faisy said that the relations that mainstream political parties had with the BJP were getting disclosed. Handing over PDP chairman Abdunnasir Maudany to the BJP government in Karnataka before his bail plea came up in the Supreme Court was an example of the BJP-CPI (M) secret relation. The CPI (M) did so to appease the BJP in the local body elections, he added.
District general secretary Noushad Punnakkal and secretary N Premraj also were present at the press conference.
