Vox Populi: Chaygaon Assembly constituency in Assam

By Mumtaz Alam Falahi, TwoCircles.net,

Tukrapara village (Kamrup district): Zaheerul Islam is a madrasa pass-out. He holds Mumtazul Muhaddis – a madrasa degree equivalent to graduation in Assam. He is jobless. Zaheda Perween has got mainstream education. She has done Masters and B.Ed. from Guwahati University. She is also jobless.

Unemployment is rampant here. The area that comes under Chaygaon Assembly constituency also lacks basic amenities – there is no pucca road. If some portions are they are so bad and broken that an outsider would pray not to come again. But this is not the end. There is no proper water system, and no electricity.

At times people sound hopeless, at another frustrated. Apparently they are fed up with the Congress regime and thus want a change.

“Tarun Gogoi government has done nothing for us. We want a change,” says Islam. “The poor is making up mind to support AIUDF,” Perween says.

“Corruption is so much that despite having high degrees we are not getting job even at village level,” she adds.

About the village

This village is Muslim dominated. It comes under Goroimari block which is among 1228 nationally identified blocks having 25% or above minority population. Assam has 118 such blocks.
