Rebuild Babri Masjid, punish demolishers: IUML

Patna: To mark the 19th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition, Bihar unit of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) today staged a dharna at Kargil Chowk here in Patna demanding immediate sever action against the demolishers of the 16th century mosque on 6th Dec 1992 and reconstruction of the mosque at its original site.

“The demolition of Babri Masjid on 6th Dec. 1992 by anti-social and anti-communal harmony elements, was not only painful incident for Muslims but it was also a blot on the face of the nation because the incident brought defame at international level for the largest democratic country of the world” said Naeem Akhter, President of Bihar chapter of IUML.

He said that the culprits of the incident should have been behind the bar but government failed to take any strong step in this regard. “Due to apathy of government, today the guilty are not only roaming free but also continue to disturb the communal harmony and peaceful environment of the country. It is matter of great concern not only for Muslims but all peace-loving people because if government continues with its inaction attitude then they will loom as sever threat for the secular fabric of the country” he warned.

“We feel betrayed by the government thinking that 19 years passed but Babri Masjid still waiting for justice. We ask how much time it will take to deliver justice to the second majority of the country?” he asked.

Mr. Akhter demanded reconstruction of Babri Masjid on its original site, punishment to those who were involved in the demolition in anyway and also removal of idols from the site.

Notably, IUML had given a call to observe 6th December as ‘Black Day’ and to stage dharna. Today’s dharna was supported by several other Muslim organizations including Popular Front of India, Social democratic Party of India and Bhartiya Momin Front. People attached with different organizations and groups participated in dharna.

Later, a delegation led by Mr. Naeem Akhter submitted memorandum with the charter of demands to the Governor, Devanand Konwar with request of forwarding it to President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil.
