Rahul Gandhi visiting Forbesganj on Friday

Patna: Forbesganj firing will not die down as early as Nitish Kumar government might have expected or wished. In order to bring the police killings into the national discourse, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is visiting Bhajanpur village of Forbesganj whose four innocent lives fell to the state bullets on June 3, 2011.

According to local Congress people, Congress youth icon Gandhi, who is popularly described as PM-in-waiting, will visit the Araria district village and talk to the victim families.

Realizing police highhandedness in the case, CM Nitish ordered a judicial probe within 48 hours but surprising many he neither suspended any police officer nor did announce compensation for the victims.

An upcoming factory had blocked the old approach road of the village Bhajanpur with about 100% Muslim population. People came out to protest against the blockade on after Friday Prayer on June 3. Police opened fire indiscriminately to kill the villagers and four people including a 6-month-old infant and a pregnant woman were killed.

On 21st of June National Commission for Minorities Chairperson Wajahat Habibullah visited the village and denounced the police action.

Several political leaders have reached the victims and condemned the killings. Last week Congress president Sonia Gandhi had sent a team of party leaders to console and offer relief amount among the victims. The party has given Rs 1 lakh each to the family of the deceased and Rs 25000 each to the injured.
