SC/ST commission chief supports quota in corporate sector

Ranchi: Dr. Rameshwer Oraon, chairman of National Commission for SC/STs, putting his weight behind the demand for reservation in the corporate sector for the downtrodden, said, now it is the responsibility of corporate sector to come forward to uplift the downtrodden communities of the country.

“The corporate sector must fulfill its responsibilities towards the betterment of downtrodden classes and should spend an amount of its profit on welfare activities,” said, Dr. Oraon while resealing a documentary film here on Sunday.

Asked if he is for reservation in corporate sector or not, he said, “I fully support the demand for reservation in corporate sector”. Dr. Oran further said, “With growth of 8-9 percentage, it is time for the marginalised communities to benefit from it and reservation would be the first step in that regard”.


Releasing of the Doccumentry, Ankahi

On the issue of ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Jharkhand, he said, “the judiciary is doing its part but government has to show its human face”. “No one should be evacuated until proper arrangement for rehabilitation is made,” he added. He also demanded the government to give land to landless families.

The film, Ankahi, the Untold story is based on a true story of the village Titla in Lohardaga district of the state. It documents the plight of child and unorganised labour in the area. The film is directed by a local documentary film maker Ashraf Hussain, who has 32 films on his credit. The release and premier show was attended by Jharkhand Minorities’ Commission chairman, Dr. Gulfam Mujibi, Senior Congressman, Roshan Lal Bhatia and folk Madhu Mansoori among others.
