Lucknow: Samajwadi Party’s (SP) announcement to release Muslims implicated in fake terror cases has rekindled a hope among the community.
State spokesperson of SP Rajendra Choudhary categorically stated on Wednesday that SP government will bring a legislation for the release of innocent Muslim youths. “We are committed on this subject as it was in our manifesto. The government will bring legislation for the release of innocent Muslims,” said Choudhary. He however stated that the shape and policy for the release of youths will be decided by the government.
Meanwhile highly placed sources claimed that CM’s secretariat has directed the home department to compile a list of all such Muslim youths who are languishing in the jails. An opinion of Law Department will also be sought before going ahead with the process. The detail list will be kept before the CM who will take a final call.
There are also reports that two accused in court blast in Faizabad in 2007 Tariq Qasmi and Khalid Mujahid will be soon released. Presently both are in jail. However no official came forward to confirm this report.
In another development there were reports on Thursday that Principal Secretary (Law) KK Sharma has been transferred. It was also reported that he has been replaced by District Judge Agra ZH Khan. Though no official communication has been issued in this regard. The post is of Higher Judicial Services Cadre.
SP had already taken a step by appointing Zafaryab Jilani, the lawyer fighting the Babri Masjid case as the Additional Advocate General of the state.
Meanwhile, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has come out against such steps by the SP. Its state president Surya Pratap Shahi stated that such steps will further weaken the morale of security forces as terrorists cannot be released. He also stated that Jilani’s appointment will affect the proceedings in the Babri Masjid case. “Such steps are being taken for their own interest by SP to appease the Muslims and their vote bank. It will risk national interest,” said Shahi.
