The expo being held at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally, Hyderabad was inaugurated on 8 December 2012 by Dr MKM Zafar from Maulana Azad National Urdu University.

While everyone is responsible to an extent for polluting the plant, a few of us are making efforts to compensate for the damage with eco-friendly initiatives said an SIO functionary.

The city chapter of SIO said that over 15 educational institutions from across Hyderabad are demonstrating eco-friendly methods, and educating masses about the ill-effects of deforestation and various forms of pollution through this event.

Demonstrating alternative methods of energy generation and effective utilization to cut down carbon emissions, Sultan Ul Uloom Public School students Saif and Faraz suggested the use of thunderbolt and other sources.

In addition to a painting and photo exhibition, the documentary films such as ‘For Love of Water’ directed by Irena Salina and ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ directed by Davis Guggenheim were screened at the venue.

SIO Hyderabad City President Syed Anas Rizvi said: “Through this event, we are trying to educate children as well as students about the significance of our environment, and show what Islam says about it.”

While commending the decision on plastic ban in the city, Rizvi urged the local government to take all necessary actions and mobilize funds to cut down carbon footprints.

SIO said it will award mementos and certificates for the best presentation in the exhibition, which attracted more than 3,000 students and youngsters until Sunday evening.

Hyderabad recently hosted United Nations’ CoP-11 biodiversity conference, wherein over 8000 delegates from across the world participated to discuss various environmental issues and devise action plans to solve them.
