Lucknow: Sticking to his statements, Congress general secretary, Digvijay Singh alleged that a section of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) was involved in terror incidents in the country. Digvijay was addressing a gathering of Muslim clerics at a function organised by All India Masajid Rabta Committee (AIMRC) at Ravindralaya on Wednesday.

“I had been saying this from the onset. RSS and other saffron organisations are involved in terror cases. People called me mad but my allegations have been proved after investigation. Even martyred Hemant Karkare has substantiated this,” said Digvijay Singh.

With an eye on Muslim vote bank, Digvijay Singh appealed for upliftment of Muslims. “The community is socially backward. It has been proved in Sachar Committee report which was an eye opener. Steps will be taken for their development and also that they do not feel alienated,” he said. Digvijay also stated that any adverse thing on Muslims gives Pakistan a handle to drive its point. “We should not indulge in things which give Pakistan leverage. Muslims love this country and this nation is also theirs so they should be treated at par with other communities,” he said.

In between his speech, some members from the audience even objected to the presence of Digvijay Singh sharing stage with the clerics. However, the protest was pacified by the organisers.

Eminent cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad in his address however termed the function as untimely as it was held too late with elections already in full swing. “If it was convened earlier we would have pressurised the political parties to include our demands in their agenda. We are being treated as slaves and the evidence is when AR Antulay raised his voice over Batla House encounter, he was forced to keep mum. There are many such encounters where Muslims have been targeted. All these should be probed,” he said.

Later, it was resolved that a high power Ulema Committee will be formed which will keep an eye on the activities of political parties and their agenda. It will also formulate the points which will be raised before the political parties. The meeting was also attended by members of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), SQR Ilyas, Abdul Wahab Khilji, Maulana Mohd Salim Qasmi and general secretary of the organising committee Maulana Abdullah were present during the programme.
