Srinagar: A village headman was gunned down by separatist guerrillas in Baramulla district of north Kashmir Sunday, police said.
Unidentified guerrillas barged into the house of Kreeri village sarpanch Muhammad Shafi, firing indiscriminately at him before fleeing.
“The injured sarpanch was taken to the hospital in nearby Pattan town where despite best efforts of the doctors, he succumbed to his critical injuries,” a senior police officer said here.
Shafi belonged to the Congress party.
Police have registered a case of murder and have started investigations, the officer said.
