Mera Payam- a journal to spread the message of Iqbal

By Kashif-ul-Huda, TwoCircles.net

Iqbal is probably the most-researched Urdu poet. Ironically, he is also the least understood poet. Iqbal Academy India is hoping to make Iqbal more accessible to the general population. Recently they started publishing journal “Mera Payam” to carry forward their mission of spreading the messages of Iqbal.

The first issue of “Mera Payam” has articles written by veteran academicians to research scholars under training. Articles present different facets of Iqbal who was not just a philosopher poet but also an academician, educator, and a politician.

Quite a few articles in this issue of the journal focus on Iqbal on the topic of education which is very illuminating on the Iqbal’s concept of education. Influence of Rumi on Iqbal’s poetry is the topic of two of the papers. Two articles that caught my eye are “Iqbal aur dars-e-tauheed” (Iqbal and teaching of monotheism) and “Iqbal ki shayari mein Hindustani anasir” (Indian elements in Iqbal’s poetry) – both written by young research scholars which gives me hope that Iqbal research in India is in good hands. I wish success to the journal “Mera Payam” in its mission to make understanding Iqbal more accessible.
