Another complaint to NHRC in lapses in investigations, rehabilitation in Muzaffarnagar riot cases

    New Delhi: A Muzaffarnagar riot victim has written to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) complaining lapses of the of district administration of Muzaffarnagar in conducting investigation, non-arrest of accused persons and failure in providing compensation as declared by the State and Central Government and in providing compensatory job.

    Mohd. Sajid Saifi, who is temporarily residing at a camp at Delhi’s suburb in Loni is from Lank village in Muzaffarnagar, one of the most affected area.

    His brother Nazim Saifi, who was on his way back from Bijnor on September 7, was also caught in the riot and killed. He said that despite filing FIR, police has failed to make any headway, and have not arrested anyone so far.

    He said that his house was also robbed and ransacked on September 8, in which lots of dowry articles, jewelry articles worth around 12 Lacs and cash of Rs. 2,70,000. One Buffalo five goats worth Rs. 150000/- were also looted from his house. He said that he has filed a case, and even named 11 persons by name as accused, besides about 15-20 unnamed accused, but no action has been taken so far.

    Highlighting the undue pressure that is being asserted, he wrote that on September 23 when he went to his village Lank to take away the left over belongings some of the named accused gathered and threatened of dire consequences for filing complaints against them. He says that even on October 9, one of the accused Prempal met him outside police station Phugana, and asked him to either take the case back or else entire family will face the dire consequences.

    Mohd. Sajid Saifi has appealed to the NHRC to direct the appropriate authority to arrest the accused persons in the murder of his brother, to take necessary actions against those accused persons involved in looting and ransacking his house, to release the ex gratia as announced by the UP government as well as the Central Government, to grant government job to his brother and to provide proper relief, rehabilitation and compensation packages.
