After increasing tally in Assam AIUDF aims for assembly election

Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president Badruddin Ajmal said that his party is aiming for 2016 assembly elections in Assam after performing better in the Lok Sabha polls. AIUDF won three seats thus adding two more to its tally from the 2009 general elections.

After the declaration of the results on Friday, the billionaire perfume baron also said that Congress has ruined the state for which people have voted against it.

“We knew something like this was supposed to happen. We are happy that we have increased the tally. Our mission and vision has been the same and we will continue to work for the development of downtrodden for the days to come. Now, we will work to make our base even stronger in the coming 2016 assembly elections in the state,” AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal said.

During the last general elections AIUDF had just one seat in the form of Dhubri which was won by party president Ajmal. This time they have also won in Barpeta and Karimganj besides retaining the Dhubri seat. Ajmal got 5, 92,569 against Congressman Wazed Ali Choudhury’s 3, 62,839 to emerge victorious.

In Barpeta, Ajmal’s younger brother Sirajuddin Ajmal got 3,94,702 against his nearest rival Chandra Mohan Patowary’s 3,52,361votes of BJP. The Barpeta seat has been under Congress so far. While in Karimganj AIUDF’s Radheshaym Bisws won by a margin of 1, 02,094 against BJP’s Krishna Das.

“Congress has already destroyed Assam. So people have reacted like this. The Congress days are over,” Ajmal said.

While his brother Sirajuddin Ajmal said that he drew inspiration from India’s most famous sprinter Milkha Singh. “Finally we have done it. I was confident of my victory. I used to draw inspiration from Milkha Singh. As he braved all the odds to win races, I also defeated all the hurdles,” the junior Ajmal said.

In 2011 election for Assam Legislative Assembly, AIUDF won 18 seats and emerged as the largest opposition party in Assam.
