Chennai: As a part of anti-terrorism campaign led by Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ), North Chennai unit of TNTJ organized a rally against terrorism on Sunday the 26 October, the rally started from Kannagi statue at Marina beach in which hundreds of men, women and children participated.
TNTJ is organising a campaign against terrorism from October 15 to November 15. This was decided in the recent state executive committee held. All branches of TNTJ including its wings in neighbouring states of Kerala, Karnataka and even branches operating in gulf countries are taking part in the campaign.
Public meetings, blood donation camps and human chain formation are being organised across the state during the campaign. “There is a general misconception against Muslims in society that all of them are involved in terrorism. Through this campaign, we want to show that we are also against terrorism,” Mohammed Yusuf, Deputy General Secretary of TNTJ said.
“There is mistrust against every Muslim, whether they are students or passengers on trains. On several occasions, landlords refused to rent houses to Muslims in cities such as Chennai,” he noted.
A statement by TNTJ declared, “Just because a few persons involved themselves in violence and terrorism, every person from the religion was seen with suspicion. Like everyone else, we are also against terrorism and violence. The heads of Jamath or mosques do not support such acts.”
This campaign gained a momentum and been appreciated by all. TNTJ representatives are busy in meeting higher police officials, Intelligence, Media persons, judges, advocates, editors and people from other walks of life to convey Islam is against all forms of terrorism.
The rallies are organised as a part of this effort of campaigning. On 26th October the rally was organised by North Chennai unit and on 27th October Thiruvallur district unit organised the rally.
