Pune: The decision of prominent Muslim educationist P A Inamdar to allow Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue and convenor of Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) Indresh Kumar to attend an important Muslim women function organized here in Azam campus has irked city Muslims.

Kumar was invited along with another RSS ideologue Virag Pachpor for the function held on Saturday under the title ‘Muslim Ladies Program cum Fatimabi Shaikh Award ceremony’ at the assembly hall of Maharashtra Cosmopolitan and Education society run in Azam Campus. The society is headed by P A Inamdar.

The function was organised by Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) Pune chapter under the supervision of its Co-Convenor (Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa) Latif Magdum.

MRM was formed in 2002 by then RSS chief S Sudarshan in an attempt to reach out to Muslims.

Kumar is an accused in Ajmer Dargah blasts and his name also cropped up during investigation of Mecca Masjid blasts when the prime accused Aseemanad in his confession said that Kumar had known about the conspiracy.

Muslims are angry because not only Kumar addressed the huge gathering of Muslim women, young girls and elderly men, but also a small rakshabandhan programme was held where the women tied rakhi to Kumar in presence of dignitaries.

In his speech he urged Muslim community to follow the path of former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam instead of 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon.

He said that he felt unique divinity of God as no untoward incident took place in the country on account of Memon’s hanging.

“Some forces tried to create communal trouble in the country on the day of hanging as it was apprehended that communal riots could break out in the country. But they could not find a single `Shaitan’ (Satan) in a country of 125 crore people. Had there been a single Satan in the country, there would have been vicious cycle of violence. But by divine grace India remained peaceful and riot free on that day,” he said.

Speaking with TwoCircles.net, Azhar Tamboli, Secretary of Action Committee, said, “This is unfortunate that Inamdar chose Indresh Kumar to grace the occasion when there are many prominent Muslim faces or other secular personalities who are widely accepted.”

“Through such programs, he (Inamdar) is trying to earn proximity of ruling party, but he should know that he represents community and community does not like his proximity with such people who are accused of killing Muslims in Masjid and Dargah”, he added.

A student who attended the program told on condition of anonymity, “We never wanted to attend such function where controversial figures are called but we are compelled to attend as our absence may cause us problem in academics by the management for showing lack of interest”.

L. Khan, a local resident from Kondhwa region says, “The program was held in a secrete manner and the news of organization of such program never came out of college before its completion otherwise we would have protested outside the campus. Nobody was allowed to enter the campus during the program”.

Usman Hiroli, a well known thinker from city told TCN, “This is an attempt to counter agitation launched By MPLB’s Wali Rahmani for saving Muslim ethos and Islamic sharia in India”.
