The decision was made after a long meeting at the residence of IUML state president Sayed Hyderalai Shihab Thangal in Panakkad.

Kunhalikkutty, who will make his debut into national politics, will submit his nomination on March 20.

Announcing the name, Hyderali Shihab Thangal said Kunhalikutty would still remain active in the party leadership in Kerala.

“He will still be active in the state and national league leadership. He has been picked for Parliament seat considering his popularity and political clout,”  the IUML president said.

Kunhalikutty said that he would follow in the footsteps of the former IUML leaders who were well established in the national politics and there was nothing to worry about stepping into a new territory.

“I am not concerned about anything at the moment. The decision was made by the party and I would follow the decision hands down,” he said.
