First Hajj flight from Bihar on 9th October
By TCN Staff Reporter,
Patna: The first Hajj flight from Bihar will take off from Patna Airport on 9th October 2010 while last flight will fly on 9th November. This year 5575 aspirants from the state will go on this holy tour. One flight carrying 200 aspirants is scheduled everyday from here.
This is for the first time when Hajj pilgrims from Bihar will fly from Patna to Saudi Arabia directly. Earlier, they had to go from Kolkata airport where sometime they had to wait for long hours. This year NAS Airlines of Saudi Arabia has bagged the contract to fly Hajj pilgrims from here unlike past years when Air India was carrying out the service.
It should be noted here that Bihar has quota of 10,000 of Hajis but it fails to touch the line every year and finally rest seats are distributed among aspirants of other states. It is because a large number of Hajis belonging to Bihar go on Hajj tour from other states as they live there for their jobs or business purposes. Consequently, almost half of the sanctioned seats fall vacant every year. Last year the number of Hajis from here was more than 6 thousand which came to 5575 this year.
The first returning flight carrying state Hajis from Madina will come on 21st November and the last flight will land here on December 22.
