Hamas militants attack Fatah lawmaker in Gaza

Gaza : Militants of the Islamic Hamas movement stormed the office of a Fatah lawmaker in southern Gaza Strip and severely wounded him, Fatah sources said.

The sources said that several members of the Hamas executive security force stormed the office of Ashraf Jom'a, a Fatah lawmaker in the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Monday evening.

Osama al-Taweel, director of Jom'a's office in the town of Rafah in southern Gaza Strip, confirmed that 15 Hamas executive security force officers raided the office and beat him severely after opening fire inside the office.

Al-Taweel said that Jom'a was brought to hospital after he was severely beaten on his head by clubs and rifles.

"The attack on the office came after Hamas websites incited against him, by saying he sends reports to Ramallah recommending not to pay salaries to certain employees in the Palestinian National Authority," said al-Taweel.

Meanwhile, Islam Shahwan, spokesperson of the Hamas executive force, denied that his forces were involved in the attack.

Hamas has taken over the Gaza Strip after it controlled President Mahmoud Abbas and Fatah security headquarters on June 14, following bloody confrontations between Fatah and Hamas.
