Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) Wednesday inducted the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and former union minister P.C. Thomas’ Kerala Congress.

Vaikom Viswan, convenor of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) led LDF, said: “We have discussed and given the nod for their entry into the LDF. Nothing else has been discussed.”

NCP was an ally of the LDF till 2006 when the father-son duo of K. Karunakaran and K. Muraleedharan merged their Democratic Indira Congress-Karunakaran with the NCP.

Thomas has with him Surendran Pillai, the erstwhile legislator from the Kerala Congress (Joseph).

With these two new allies, the LDF now includes the CPI-M, the Communist Party of India, the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), the Janata Dal-S and the Congress-S.

The new inductions come ahead of the local bodies poll in September and the assembly polls next April-May.
