Two militants killed in Kashmir

Jammu, Aug 2 (IANS) Two militants who sneaked into Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan were shot dead near the border, the Indian Army said Thursday.

An army spokesman said the two were killed at Saltori in the border district of Poonch, about 200 km north of Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the spokesman, troops noticed a group of infiltrators sneaking in from across the Line of Control (LoC) that separates Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

“The infiltrators opened fire when challenged. In the ensuing encounter two terrorists were killed,” the spokesman said.

Infiltration bids from across LoC have increased in recent days. On Wednesday, the army claimed to have killed eight militants in Uri sector in northwest Kashmir.

The army also lost a colonel and a soldier in the gunfight with the militants in the Uri sector.
