Agartala : Three members of a tribal family were gunned down and another wounded by separatist guerrillas in Tripura in an attack said to be in retaliation to one of the victims deserting the rebel camp, officials said Monday.
A police spokesman said heavily armed militants of the outlawed All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) late Sunday attacked a house in Khowai village, 85 km west of state capital Agartala.
“The militants killed 50-year-old Subhobati Debbarma and her two young sons and injured another son in the attack,” police spokesman Nepal Das said.
The injured man was shifted to a hospital and was stated to be in a critical condition.
“The militants attacked the family in retaliation after one of Subhobati’s sons, who was an ATTF cadre, fled the outfit’s camp recently,” Das said.
“The son who fled the rebel camp is absconding and was not present in the house when the attack took place” he added.
