Ranchi : Supporters of Mahinder Singh Dhoni braved incessant rain and assembled at the Albert Ekka chawk here to celebrate their idol being chosen captain of India’s Twenty20 cricket team.
They burst firecrackers and shouted slogans in favour of Dhoni, while distributing sweets to those passing by.
“Dhoni has proved himself a good wicketkeeper and batsman, and he will also prove as good a captain. We are sure that he will surpass Indian captains like Saurav Ganguly,” said Sunty Sardar, one of the fans.
Echoing his view, Mahadeo Sen said “Dhoni’s achievement makes us proud. We feel proud to belong to the hometown of Dhoni. People know Ranchi due to Dhoni”.
Dhoni’s parents, who live in Ranchi, were inundated with hundreds of telephone calls to congratulate them.
For his fans, Dhoni’s bad form during the last World Cup seems largely forgotten. At that time, they had attacked his house under construction, and raised slogans against him.
“Dhoni’s poor performance in the World Cup is past and we have forgotten it. Presently he is captain due to his good performance we are proud of him,” sais Rohit Kumar, another fan.
