London : England’s middle order batsman Kevin Pietersen looks set to play the final Test against India starting Thursday at the Kennington Oval here after training with his team mates Wednesday.
The 27-year-old South African born batsman was confined to bed Tuesday with fever and was given antibiotics in the hope of getting him for to take the field in the crucial five-day encounter.
There were fears he might miss his first Test since debut in 2005.
Pietersen’s return is a boost for England, who need a victory to avoid their first home series loss since 2001 after losing by seven wickets in Nottingham last week.
England are likely to name an unchanged side for the Test after naming the same 12-man squad that did duty in the previous two Tests. England were denied a well-deserved victory by the weather in the first Test at Lord’s and were soundly beaten at Trent Bridge last week.
