Rural development ministry to discuss projects with each MP

New Delhi : The ministry for rural development will spend at least eight days a year with each member of parliament (MP) to discuss and review rural development work in that MP’s constituency.

“We will spend at least eight days a year with every MP in connection with the projects under my ministry in that MP’s constituency. And each such meeting will be of at least three hours’ duration,” Minister for Rural Development Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said at a state-specific ministry media briefing on Assam here Wednesday.

Stating that his ministry was taking several steps to ensure transparency in rural development work, he said that vigilance committees had been constituted to keep track of work under various schemes.

“At each village, a social audit forum has been constituted. Any person can inspect muster rolls and copies of paid muster rolls are available at panchayat offices for inspection,” he said.

Among the various rural development schemes under the ministry are Indira Awaas Yojana, Swranajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana and a rural employment guarantee scheme under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
