Kakarla Nagasubbareddy’s fellow workers turned up at the mortuary Thursday to identify and claim his body to send it back to India for burial, The Straits Times said.

Benjamin Lim, the managing director of the company that employed Kakarla, said the worker was repairing a metal gate when the truck hit him.

Kakarla worked hard and rarely took a day off to save money to send back to his family in Andhra Pradesh in southern India, said co-worker Sajimon Rajendren Nair.

Another worker Chua Yew Meng was killed Tuesday when he fell 18 storeys down the lift shaft of a building during demolition works.

There were 3.1 deaths per 100,000 workers last year, down from 4.9 in 2005, according to the manpower ministry.
