Bangalore : A group of four to six people brandishing pistols looted gold jewellery worth Rs.35 million from a shop on the city’s outskirts Saturday morning, police said.
The shop in Kammanahalli belongs to Chemmanur jewellers, a leading group with a chain of jewellery shops in Bangalore and other southern states.
Quoting the employees of the shop, police said that at around 10.45 a.m. four to six persons barged into the shop brandishing pistols. About ten employees were herded into a corner and their mobile phones snatched.
As one of the robbers stood guard over the employees, others emptied the showcases. The robbers escaped in a blue Indica car.
The robbery was over in 15 minutes and the preliminary estimate is that the group has stolen 35 kg gold jewellery worth around Rs.35 million.
Bangalore city police commissioner Neelam Achuta Rao, joint commissioner Gopal Hosur and other senior police officials visited the shop soon after they were informed of the incident.
Hosur told reporters later that from the shop’s close-circuit television, police had gathered the images of the people involved and all exit points from the city are under close watch to nab them.
The employees told the police the group spoke a mix of Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
