Srinagar : Security forces claimed to have gunned down a militant in Zachaldara area of Kupwara, during the wee hours today.
Official sources told News Agency of Kashmir on specific information about the presence of militants at Khan Mohalla in Zachaldara, the state police and troops of 21 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched an operation in the village.
Soon after the troops zeroed in a house where the militants were hiding, they came under heavy fire. Troops retaliated and killed a militant who was later identified as Abdul Razak Mir son of Mohammad Ramzan resident of Sarmarg Rajwar, sources added.
Two AK rifles, five magazines and one mobile battery have been recovered from the encounter site. The area is under cordon so as to neutralize any other militant present in the area.
