Kolkata : Mohun Bagan continued their winning streak, defeating Eastern Railways 3-0 in the Calcutta Premier League here Saturday.
This is Bagan’s third consecutive win in the Premier League that takes them to the top of the table with 10 points from four matches.
Striker Jose Ramirez Barreto scored the opening goal for green-maroons in the fifth minute. Medio Rauf Khan sent a left-footed floater to Barreto who made no mistakes to head the ball in. With this goal, the floodgates seemed to open.
Attacking medio S. Venkatesh doubled the lead in the 25th minute. Fed by Barreto’s back header, the former Mahindra United star sent a right-footed blockbuster that bulged the rival netting.
Six minutes later, Barreto once again struck for Bagan. On this occasion, it was striker Lalawmpuian who passed the ball towards Venkatesh with the latter playing a dummy and leaving Barreto to finish the job.
The Brazilian placed the ball perfectly with a right-footer that beat Railways keeper Tapan Karmakar and secured Bagan’s third goal.
With this goal, Barreto equalises East Bengal and compatriot Edmilson Marques’s tally of five goals in this edition’s Premier League. Incidentally, this goal from Barreto is the 50th goal of this year’s Premier League.
