Deepak Mehndiratta, COO of Adroit Quest, a global talent search and acquisition company, went missing Aug 2 after he told his wife Shelly that he was going out to collect some money from a property dealer in Sushant Lok.

His charred Honda City car was found on National Highway No 8 a day later.

He was found outside his apartment in Gurgaon late Saturday with some injuries, torn clothes and in a state of shock, police said Sunday.

Doctors attending on him in a private hospital here say he is not able to talk and have advised him rest for at least two days.

“He is in a state of shock and hasn’t been able to talk. He is just communicating with his family members through gestures and hand movements. I expect him to start talking in a day or two. He has met his family members and is showing signs of recovering,” said R.R. Gupta, a doctor treating him.

Mehndiratta was unable to make any statement to the police.

Gurgaon Assistant Commissioner of Police Sumit Kapur said: “The police had no role in his returning home. We have still not been able to interrogate him, as he is in the state of shock.

“He was found to be in an intoxicated state and was admitted to a private hospital in Gurgaon. We are not ruling out abduction and are investigating if his family paid any ransom money for his rescue.”

Although the police registered a case of abduction, investigating officers have no clue where Mehndiratta was for nine days.

Investigating officers said they suspect the executive could have staged his own abduction.

“We have come to know that he was under some kind of debt and just wanted to get away from this stress. We cannot confirm or deny anything till we talk to him,” one officer said.

Anil Kumar, a relative of the executive, said: “We found him outside our apartment last night. He was in complete shock and bore some injuries. We are trying to talk to him but he has not been able to get out of the trauma.”
