Lucknow : After marking its presence in Hyderabad and New Delhi, Reliance Fresh, the retail business of the Mukesh Ambani group, is expanding its operations into Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

“We propose to commence our retail business under the Reliance Fresh brand name in seven major cities of Uttar Pradesh and one in Uttarakhand on the (Aug 14) eve of Independence Day when we launch the first phase of our jumbo operation,” a top executive of Reliance Retail said Sunday.

The group will be making an investment of Rs.80 billion in the two states by the end of 2010, which is a part of the Rs.250 billion it intends to spend on the retail business over the next five years.

According to a statement from Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), four types of retail outlets are in the process of being set up in urban and semi-urban areas of the country.

These include Reliance Fresh stores, hypermarkets, speciality stores and Reliance Town Centres.
