India moved up two places and is now behind Australia, still the top team with 141 rating points, as well as England, who have 111 points.

Despite of the series win on English soil after a gap of 21 years, India is still four rating points behind England as the 1-0 win earned only five rating points for Rahul Dravid’s men and lifted them above both South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is fourth with 107 points, five points ahead of fifth placed South Africa.

India has the same number of points as Sri Lanka, but edges ahead when the ratings are recalculated to three decimal places.

England dropped four points following its first home series loss since the 4-1 drubbing by Australia in 2001.

But the consolation for Michael Vaughan and his team is that things could have been worse.

If India had won the third Test at the Kennington Oval to secure the series 2-0, it would have left the both teams level on 107 rating points with England retaining second place only by decimal places.

Rankings:

1. Australia 141 rating points
2. England 111
3. India 107
4. Sri Lanka 107
5. South Africa 102
6. Pakistan 99
7. New Zealand 99
8. West Indies 72
9. Bangladesh 4
