Dhaka : The diarrhoea situation in post-flood Bangladesh is worsening as about 50 patients are coming every hour to the special hospital here.
Shahdat Hossain, an expert in the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease and Research, Bangladesh (ICDDRB), said during the last 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. Saturday, over 1,000 patients were admitted to the hospital.
Hossain said: “If this situation continues, it will be impossible for us to take new patients.”
ICDDRB has set up two big makeshift camps to treat the diarrhoea patients. Health Ministry statistics said over 50,000 people have been affected by diarrhoea since the end of July.
The worst floods since 1998 has affected 39 of 64 districts in Bangladesh and killed 554 people so far.
