Jammu: Displaced Kashmiri Pandits today announced launch of new political party in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Named as Jammu and Kashmir National Democratic Front, the political party has specially been launched to highlight the long pending demands of Kashmiri Pandit community on the political arena, working president of the party A K Dewani said in a press conference, here today.
He said that the community members in the backdrop of high-tech Political activity, decided to setup this political party with a mindset, policy and stake holding on multifarious fronts.
He said that the community has a good number of voters in Jammu and Kashmir particularly in Jammu .He further claimed that the formation of this front would give a tough contest to other parties in upcoming assembly elections as the majority of voters belong to their community in some constituencies.
He said that the membership drive to JKNDF was in full swing and so far 4984 members have joined in. “We have enrollment targeted of 50,000 in the coming months from India and abroad”, he claimed.
“There is an over whelming response from KPs now living in 18th year of exile to join this first ever political party, not with standing some feeble voices of decent.” Dewani said adding that the core group for formulation of the party had a series of meetings with community members in Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Srinagar, Delhi, Faridabad, Gaziabad, Ambala and Bangalore.
The attempt is also to facilitate development of second line leadership, bringing forward the youth of the community to handle its problems on various fronts, he added.
Giving details of the newly floated party, he said that the JKNDF will reflect the mainstream voice of KPs with an inclusive agenda. The inputs so far gathered suggest that it is high time that such a party is launched with people having a clear and transparent track record at the helm, he adds.
The draft constitution of the party is ready and is being circulated to seek opinion of the community members. After all the formalities are completed the party will be registered with the Election Commission of India.
