Jammu : Singing the song of recently released Bollywood Movie `Chak De , National Conference chief patron Dr Farooq Abdullah today said that he would be the party’s chief ministership candidate for the upcoming assembly elections.
Clearing many doubts the flamboyant NC leader told media persons, on the sidelines of photo exhibition organised by Jammu based photojournalists on eve of world photography Day, that he is certainly going to contest the next assembly elections in the state as the party candidate for chief ministership post.
“I will groom my son Omar Abdullah in the political arena and he will work with me neck to neck”, the confident Farooq said. “If Prakash Singh Badal can groom his son why cannot I”, he added further.
Replying to another query, the former chief minister denied that he ever approached Congress or Left Front for his candidature for coveted post of vice president of India. “Infact I was offered the nomination by NDA and Third Front, which I turned down after consultation with my colleagues in the state”, he claimed.
He said that he was approached by NDA leaders and offered candidature for the coveted post. “However, after consultation with my colleagues in the state I met Left Front leaders and apprised them about my decision not to contest for the post”.
Winning many hearts, the former chief minister shared many light movements with the media persons and others present on the occasion. On the request of some media persons, Farooq also sung the title son of `Chak De’.
“You should see the movie as it has the lesson to learn: Never Give Up”, he said. To a question, he said he liked the picture as the story depicts how a person can achieve his goal with determination and will power”.
When his attention was brought to the difference within the UPA over nuclear deal he said, “Farooq Abdullah does not want unstable Delhi”. “There is going to be discussion on the issue but I personally wish that the stability of coalition government in the center is not threatened”.
He was of the opinion, “Stable government in center means stable India and stable India means development”.
