Mumbai : In a press statement from his Mumbai residence today Maulana Badruddin Ajmal Al- Qasmi, Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) and Assam State Jami’at Ulama-e Hind president demanded an immediate action on the recommendations of Justice Srikrishna Commission Report on the 1992-93 communal riots that took place as aftermath deprecation of the Babri Masjid demolition.
“When the people responsible for 1993 Mumbai serial blasts have been punished to death, life imprisonment and jail sentences by the Special TADA Court, we demand the Maharashtra government to catch hold of culprits’ necks of the anti-Muslim riots, who are still wandering without any fear after Srikrishna report pronounced them as the killers of innocent Muslims, and the base reason behind the Mumbai serial blasts.” says Maulana Ajmal.
It was unfair in the beginning to start with the latest (bomb blast) case from the sequence of a three— Babri Masjid demolition and Bombay riots putting in number one and two respectively, said Ajmal.
Maulana Ajmal stated that the Justice Srikrishna Commission confirms the Cause-and-effect relation between the post Babri demolition anti-Muslim riots and the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
He also mentioned in his statement that the Srikrishna Commission indicted several politicians, policemen and officials for various sins of omission and commission. The Shiv Sena–BJP activists had played a leading role in commissioning the communal violence and organizing the attacks on Muslims and their properties from eight January 1993, with total support from their supremoes or social political leaders.
The Report has mentioned the names of some police officials who participated in the killing of Muslims and helped Sena and other activists in the carnage. “But it is an irony that despite having promised in the election manifestoes, neither the Congress nor the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) show any real keenness to implement the report. Rather those criminal officials were promoted by the Congress-led government of the state instead of punishing them.” rued the Maulana.
“Nine years have been passed since Justice Srikrishna submitted his report but no action has been taken against the offenders, while the CM often pledges that offenders can no longer escape. Muslims of India and specially those in Mumbai have kept on demanding for ‘Justice’ for last 14 years. It will not be only the injustice with the minority community but also will hurt the sentiments of right-thinking citizens of the country and will plainly amount against equal right of life and property of the genuine citizens, if the same action is not taken against the riot culprits as already taken against those found guilty for Bombay Blasts”, opined Maulana.
Maulana also urged the PM of India to adopt proper stand against all anti-Muslim riots in the lines as taken against those responsible for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi.
He also warned the UPA governments in the Centre and the Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra that if satisfactory criminal action for injustice against Muslims and other minority communities in Maharshtra is not taken immediately then the Congress and the NCP will alone face the consequence in the succeeding elections. He said, “No wonder people may see our ground work against social injustice and corruption as they have seen in Assam and Malegaon”.
