Titled ‘Peaks Of Freedom’, the expedition is sponsored by IndianOil and was flagged off at the company’s retail outlet in the city. It will go to Ladakh. The 13-member team comprises mainly of journalists, photographers and other professionals including four women.

“The expedition will be a tribute to the courage, patriotism and resilience of our armed forces as the members of the expedition are scheduled to touch those Himalayan ranges where our men in uniform have made some of the greatest sacrifices during the Chinese war and the Kargil conflict,” said Deora during the ceremony.

The petroleum minister was hopeful that the exercise would help forge a closer bond with the people of those regions through which the expedition passes, promoting national integrity and spreading the message of peace.

On their way, the team will travel through the Himalayan passes including Rohtang, Baralacha La, Nakee La, Lachalung La, Tanglang La, Chang La and Khardung La, reaching Daulat Beg Oldi near the Karakoram Pass located at over 18,000 feet.
