New Delhi : The sports ministry has allocated Rs.1.83 billion for the year 2007-08 on various schemes run by the Sports Authority of India, Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar told the Lok Sabha here Wednesday.
This figure is an improvement on the Rs.1.36 billion that the ministry spent in 2006-07 and Rs.1.58 billion in 2005-06, he said.
Aiyar said that Rs.211.6 million have been spent as assistance to national sports federations till Aug 15, 2007. He said that in 2005-06 the amount spent was Rs.386.6 million and in 2006-07 it was Rs.322.2 million.
On the scheme relating to talent search and training, the ministry has spent Rs.20 million between April and Aug 15, 2007. In 2005-06, it spent Rs.5 million and in 2006-07 the amount was Rs.28 million.
Aiyar said that for the National Sports Development Fund, his ministry has already spent Rs.5.78 million. The figure for 2005-06 was Rs.4.81 million and for 2006-07 Rs.9.61 million.
