Srinagar : Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces in frontier district of Kupwara, while suspected militants gunned down a civilian, said to be brother of a released militant in Handwara area.
Official sources said that two militants were killed in a joint operation launched by police and 18 Rashtriya Rfiles in Lolab valley of the frontier district Kupwara, early this morning.
Quoting ASP Kupwara, an official spokesman told News Agency of Kashmir that based on specific information an operation was launched in Chaiwan Dar Mohalla village in Lolab, during the wee hours today.
The operation led to a fierce gun battle between militants and security forces, which lasted for about two hours. Two militants were eliminated in the encounter, he said, adding the identification of the slain militants was being ascertained.
Two AK 56, seven magazines, 212 rounds, and two wireless sets, were recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, DIG Baramulla, Dr B Srinivas told News Agency of Kashmir that suspected militants barged into the house of Abdul Majid Gujri son of Ghulam Ahmed Gujri in Gujri Mohalla Batpora Handwara, late last night and shot him dead from a point blank range.
“The militants came to his house and took some food”, he said adding, and “Before leaving the house the gunmen shot dead Gurji in front of his family members”.
The deceased was said be brother of a militant, who was recently released from the jail.
