Kolkata : A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team raided the house of one of its senior officers here after charges of blackmail, extortion and disproportionate income were hurled against him.
An 11-member team of CBI’s vigilance wing conducted a thorough raid Thursday for about 15 hours at the Beliaghata flat of CBI (Special Crime Branch) Superintendent of Police A.K. Sahay who is overseeing the probe into the rape and murder of Singur girl Tapasi Malik.
The team reached Sahay’s flat at around 6.30 a.m. Thursday. They locked the main door and started interrogating the officer. The questioning continued till late Thursday.
According to media reports, some documents, including details of his bank account and investments, were seized. Raids were also conducted at Sahay’s Salt Lake office, his ancestral home in Dhanbad and nine other places.
A CBI spokesperson said a case had been registered against Sahay for “taking illegal gratification, criminal misconduct and obtaining pecuniary advantage by abusing official position”.
Sahay and his aides would “extort money” from accused or suspects in cases that his department was handling, the spokesperson added.
