Baghdad : A national reconciliation document will be issued within the next few weeks capping ongoing talks at the level of five influential political parties, an official said on Sunday.
Nassir Al-Ani, Head of the Iraqi Presidential Court, said in a statement the top-level talks included President Jalal Al-Talabani, his deputies, Tareq Al-Hashemi and Adel Abdulmahdi, Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki and President of Kurdistan region, Masoud Barzani.
Al-Ani said the top topic of the talks was the issue of 42,000 prisoners, held in Iraqi and US-run jails, with a significant number of the inmates imprisoned without a court order.
Laws and regulations concerning “debaathification,” the governorates, the prisoners and outlawed armed groups and militias were also under examination by the senior officials, Al-Ani said, adding that bills concerning oil, gas and financial resources and constitutional laws were also being debated.
He hoped that outcomes of the talks would contribute in reducing political tension.
