Malda (West Bengal) : A former Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) MLA was arrested for allegedly molesting an army officer’s wife in his presence on a train Sunday night.
Former MLA Prakash Minj was arrested by the Railway Protection Force personnel.
“Prakash Minj was in an inebriated state in the air-conditioned compartment of the train. He misbehaved and allegedly outraged the modesty of the wife of Col. Pankaj Devgon in the railway compartment (of the Kolkata-bound Darjeeling Mail),” said Malda General Railway Police (GRP) inspector-in-charge S. Dasgupta.
Devgon lodged a complaint with the Malda GRP when the train arrived at Malda town railway station, 320 km from here.
West Bengal Civil Defence Minister Srikumar Mukherjee, who was also in the same compartment, informed the security personnel of the train and got Minj arrested early Monday.
Minj was elected from Phansidewa assembly constituency in Darjeeling district. Last year, the CPI-M leaders did not allow him to contest after receiving complaints against him.
