Murder sparks off tension in Haryana town

By IANS

Gohana (Haryana) : Tension prevailed in this Haryana town Monday evening after a youth was killed in what is being suspected to be revenge killing by the Jat community.

Rakesh Kumar of the Balmiki community was shot dead in this town, 250 km from state capital Chandigarh.

The people took to the streets to protest the killing and damaged property.

Rakesh was accused in the murder of a Jat youth, Baljit Singh, in a caste clash here in 2005.

Though the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had given Rakesh a clean chit, his killing is likely to lead to more tension between the Balmiki and Jat communities in the area.
